Hi there! Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m Christine.

I’m a South African-Canadian, born in Vancouver, Beautiful British Columbia, currently living and working in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.

I’m a dental hygienist by trade with a background in communications. I hold licenses with the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals and the New Zealand Dental Council, and membership with the Canadian Dental Hygienists’ Association and the New Zealand Oral Health Association. When I’m not working in clinical practice, I’m a continuing professional development presenter. I have given seminars on topics ranging from obstructive sleep apnea to autoimmune conditions.

While completing my degree in communication, I worked as an editor at my alma mater’s campus publication, the Capilano Courier. I reported on housing, transit, activism and student, municipal and provincial government and ultimately became the publication’s editor-in-chief. I was shortlisted for a JHM Labour Reporting award in December 2017 for my coverage of the Capilano cleaners’ fight for a living wage.

I’ve also worked as a staff writer for Pursuit Media, a lifestyle publication for entrepreneurial-minded women; for Kids Help Phone, where I wrote editorial content for Homes for the Holidays magazine; and a marketing coordinator for Canada Wide Media—the biggest magazine publisher in Western Canada—where I planned events for BCBusiness, Vancouver magazine and Western Living. Two of the events I helped coordinate, the 30th annual Restaurant Awards and Top 100 networking event, were both named Top 100 Events in Vancouver by BizBash in 2019.

Obviously, my background as a writer is what keeps me fuelled, both personally and professionally. You’ll find all of my everyday musings—from my dental hygiene journey to my travel diary, my recipe cards to my fun facts about the ancient world—right here.
